Quebec gemstones

Interest in gemstones from Quebec is very recent. First extracted sporadically by prospectors or mineral collectors who used artisanal mining methods, they only recently appeared on the jewelry market.

Despite the fact that the geological contexts favorable to the formation of gemstones are rare in Quebec, Mr. André Gagnon, lapidary of Quebec, undertook in 1994 research in the mining archives, collections of minerals and available geological reports.

Following the discovery of several sites of interest, he organized numerous expeditions aimed at extracting the minerals which seemed the most promising for stone cutting and subsequently offering them to jewelry craftsmen.

Amazonite, this pretty stone that comes from Lac St-Jean, is part of the Feldspath family. Its turquoise color and shimmering make it a unique stone. For safety reasons, the excavation site was recently leveled.

Rosaline is the name given to the massive rose-colored zoisite. It is generally found in hydrothermal veins and granitic pegmatites. This rare pink variety of zoisite was recently extracted in small quantities by Gemmes Québec in the Bois-Francs region. It is the heart chakra stone.
